Women’s health can be particular and sometimes complex. Our doctors take the time to listen and understand your needs, whether it’s about family planning, contraceptive advice, pregnancy care, fertility advice, health screening, breast examinations or sexual health screening.

They will discretely examine you and advise on any further examination and tests required. Some of our regular examinations include:

Cervical Screening Tests (previously known as PAP Smears)
Regular cervical screening tests (CST), this has replaced the previous ‘pap smear’ from every 2 years to now being every five years for women 25 to 74 years. All women who have ever been sexually active in their lifetimes need to have regular cervical screening, even if they are no longer sexually active.
This test involves taking a small sample of cells from the cervix to be tested for cell changes and a swab to check for human papillomavirus, which can lead to cell changes in the cervix in the future . While a little uncomfortable, it is a quick and simple test that allows for the detection of cervical cancer which can then be treated..

Breast Check
Once women turn 50 years of age, regular 1-2 yearly screening is encouraged depending on risk factors. Breast screening can include mammograms, ultrasounds, and breast exams.

STD Screening
Sexually transmitted disease screening can be conducted during the consultation. STDs can occur without experiencing symptoms, so screening is offered as part of a women’s health check with a discussion about safe sex practices.

Other preventative health measures such as blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes checks are discussed at the Well Women Health Check by a doctor of your choice. Not only is this a great general health check-up, but it enables early warning detection for a variety of illnesses.

Our ‘Well Woman Check’ includes:

  • Blood pressure test
  • Heart check
  • Blood sugar level test
  • Height and weight check
  • Thyroid check
  • Breast examination (plus referral for mammogram, if appropriate)
  • Cervical screening tests (will require separate long appointment – fees apply)
  • STD check (if appropriate)
  • Urine check onsite
  • Expert advice regarding “lifestyle”, including smoking, alcohol and drug use (if appropriate)
  • Referral for specific blood tests (if appropriate)

Women are invited to discuss other matters that may be of concern to them, including contraceptive options, menopause management, sleep, nutrition, exercise, mood disorders, and symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The first visit is a standard consultation with the doctor. The well woman health check may require a few separate visits to complete the full check-up and tests. Please ensure you advise our friendly receptionist if you require cervical screening or have several medical conditions to discuss with the doctor so we may allow for a longer consultation.
