Dr Meredith Cheng

Dr Meredith Cheng is definitely not your average GP Registrar — and she’ll be the first to tell you that medicine and music aren’t as different as they sound! Before becoming a doctor, Meredith was a classically trained opera singer (wow!), graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a heap of accolades on her back. The connection between the two? The way you listen, the way you connect, and the way you make people feel at ease — and she brings all of that into every consultation.

Meredith holds a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Australian National University, and her hospital training spanned Royal North Shore Hospital, Westmead’s Children’s Hospital, and a range of specialties including medicine, surgery, paediatrics, emergency, obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiothoracic surgery, aged care, and general practice (phew, what a range of specialties and cases to witness!). She has been recognised (and rightly so) for her work, with a nominee for JMO of the Year at Ryde Hospital, and has contributed to published research in urology and the intersection of art and medicine.

Her special interests are women’s health — she is currently completing her Certificate of Women’s Health with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to maintaining high standards in women’s health  — as well as paediatrics, preventative care, chronic disease management, and dermatology. She is the kind of doctor who takes the time to cover everything thoroughly, and genuinely believes that preventing illness is just as important as treating it.

Outside the clinic, Meredith is a crocheter, photographer, and occasional songwriter. On weekends you’ll find her trawling local markets and op shops, or cheering her fiancé across the finish line of yet another marathon somewhere in Australia 🥹.
